I always went by the idea 'If you haven't worn/used it in a year, get rid of it.' This never really worked for me because I would always overthink about items. After sitting and reading this book, I was able to seriously go through parts of my house and rid the different rooms of clutter. I feel a lot better about my organization, and look forward to using more techniques offered in this book! Most of the ideas I have heard before but Kimberly Wilson put all those random ideas into an organized fashion.
Not much can be said about a book that is exactly what is expected. It is all very logical but good to have as a reminder
If someone stood over me with a whip, I might be able to de-clutter and impify my home (and certainly keep it tht way).
This book was quick read and vitality of good points obstinate in your cluttering mission. I really enjoyed this book.
Good book but, I bought it by accident. I only meant to get the preview and I doubt I would have purchased the entire book mostly because I have a million organizing books and am only interested in finding a simplifying book that I actually believe will make a difference in my cluttered life.
It's a nice book with fairly basic ideas in general (but good to read them over again) with some extras that not many people think about - like the part about cluttered computers. I know they say to never judge a book by its cover but I liked the design very much - just what the author is talking about. I am still on the fence when it comes to family heirlooms. Taking a picture of it is not the same as passing your great grandmother's childhood ink well or brooch to your own children instead of showing them a picture of something you donated to the Salvation Army. I am all for taking pictures of children's art work in order to keep the clutter accumulation under control.
Another book I will delete from my . I preview books before purchasing. I am finding the previews of books to be like movie trailer previews. The best parts are in the preview. Frustrations are found in the entirety. I also read others reviews on books prior to purchasing. I am learning to be very selective, to prevent multiple books with different covers and titles, yet same content written slightly differently. I have come to realize not everyone uses the same rating and review system.
While I didn't find any new ideas in this book, it does explain the process of decluttering. My frustration is that the whole book repeats itself. Purge, keep, sell... it is possible my expectations are too high.
If you are looking for a book "to read" about decluttering and simplifying you may enjoy this book. If you are looking for a book "to teach" new ways and ideas you may be disappointed.
